Shree Krishna Janam Ashtmi
(The Manifestation of Bhagwan Shree Krishna)
Shree Krishna Janam Ashtmi is the joyful celebration of the birth of Bhagwan Shree Krishna. It was celebrated on Monday, September 3rd.
Shree Krishna was born on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapad (August – September) and is the eighth incarnation of Bhagwan Vishnu.
Shree Krishna represents the total power of attraction (Aakarshna Shakti) like a magnet of infinite rise; hence he is the source of joy!
Hindus begin this festival by fasting, followed by a night-long vigil commemorating the birth of Bhagwan Shree Krishna. Puja is performed at homes
and at temples and everyone is engaged in singing bhajans and keertans. At midnight, the birth of Shree Krishna and his associated activities are celebrated
whereby, devotees are given the opportunity to offer puja, (and rock the “palana” or cradle.)
Indeed, it is a happy and joyous festivity to welcome the newborn baby “Krishna”. Great indeed are his many Leelas (activities), the teachings of the
Bhagavad Gita and the many ways in which he restores Dharma.
May Bhagwan Shree Krishna enrich your life with all his blessings!
